Space Game!
A downloadable game
Space game
You control a star fighter and must destroy all the enemies and objects in your way to achieve ultimate victory!
About the project
The game is a simple shooter for the C64 that I made in Turbo Rascal Syntax Error. The game entirely uses the high level language and was soley created just to see how far I could get 'winging it. This is my second game and it is far more ambitious than the first however it is still a skill I am working on.
Install
Game was built on NTSC but should run on PAL systems
To play open 'space game.prg' with VICE or an emulator of choice
If using actual hardware it has been tested on SD2IEC and Kung Fu Flash so it probably works on most methods to run programs.
Controls
Player 1
Joystick in port 2 to move ship and fire
Player 2
Joystick in port 1 press fire to take over an entity and attack player 1
General
Spacebar to start game
S key to toggle the music off/on
New feature as of January 2nd 2025
2 Player combat, use joystick in port 1 to take over an enemy sprite and attack the player.

Nice shooter with a certain Space Invaders feeling. Our German-language review can be found in our recorded livestream starting at 01:24:33. English subtitles are also available. Subscription to our YouTube and Twitch channel is welcome. ๐
Thanks for playing! No one ever gets to the scrolling levels in these reviews.....
Done with TRSE right? Cool game and nice SDK. Also done my game FIZZ with TRSE
Yes! I love TRSE cause it put my useless highschool pascal knowledge to work lol
Great… I learned PL/1, will come next. Actually my follow up game Orbix was made with Oscar 64 C Compiler, which is more Advanced but 6502 only
Nice! I was taking a look at your profile I'm gonna take a look at your C64 games later today hopefully. I'm currently working on a 2-4 player vs game that will use the protovision adapter or snes adapter
Nice shoot 'em up paying homage to the games of the early 1980s. The sprites are cool. Each level I played so far (up to level 3) has had a new feature which increases the difficulty of the game and includes one or two surprises. The biggest surprise for me were those pesky rockets that flew across the screen. The loading bitmap is cool.
What would be nice is to have something like an arcade style attract screen with a title screen logo, a hi score table. Also add some in game sound effects. Unfortunately I didn't like the music. Despite this, you have made a great effort making this game in TRSE. I have not even had time to master TRSE.
Yea I tried to make each level different, it's a short game only 10 levels. there's different SIDs on level 6-7 but I understand not liking the rest, it is my first attempt at GOATRACKER
No problem. I understand this regarding Goat Tracker. Other newcomers in the C64 game music scene also started that way. I know how hard it would be to make own instruments without full knowledge of the SID :)
Thank you! Space Game (2024, CommodoreSpence)
Thanks!
A very good new shoot 'em up for the C64. I also included it in my new "Gameplay of New C64 Games from December 2024" video, along with other released C64 games.
Thanks!
Nice game!
Thanks!
Awesome game !
you're too kind, thank you
Geez watching someone who isnt me play this you really got your butt kicked lol
At first glance, the game seems cool ๐ It could be expanded a bit with more elaborate shooting sound effects like bonuses after smashing an asteroid, e.g. double shot or temporarily freezing the enemy by switching from one weapon to another (laser, rockets, etc.).
Yea maybe the next one, this ones simpler on purpose as I was figuring out stuff like entity control, how to use GOAT tracker, etc but I do have a few ideas floating around for the next game
In that case, I look forward to reading more of your ideas ๐
